Default RIAA is getting desperate

They are now suing people who have only copied CDs they've bought onto their computer. This is a whole new level of insanity. It's almost like ANet trying to sue us for installing GW on our computers after we bought it.

Can anyone say boycott?

I don't see how a court would find someone guilty so long as the person who has a legal right to the media only has one copy of the CD in use at a time and isn't sharing it, so this seems odd other than as an attention getting ploy or maybe a scare tactic.

Yeah, cause that's practical. Hmm, how do people get all those MP3s on their fancy new iPods and Zunes? Or any other music playing device, Winamp, Windows Media Player, iTunes.. Zune Marketplace.. I see where this is going.

I say it's retarded, and they can go ahead and try to sue practically everyone in the world, hey, I wish them luck, they'll need it.

It's Ipodz fault. Why couldntz we just have a normalz life like the Medieval ages. Back then, we had to getz Jesterz and Musicians just to come in to give us a show. Now we have these Thingz that are powered by electricity which fuse music through our ears by using a cheap access to music online.
Poorz soulz are being accusedz of badz thingz nowadayz cause of Ipodz! Damn you Ipodz! =D!

If you read carefully, it seems that the people are being sued for sharing the music they copied from the legal CD's - this is clearly not allowed.
As long as you do not share the music you buy and copy onto your comp. you're still all right!

Anyways, I live in Denmark and they always fail in their silly lawsuits here! Even some of those far out ones that win in the US can't even get into court here!

Although, half of the Population doez itz, the government only carez about the onez that share CD'z to download the muzic onto their Ipodz. They(the lawyers and the government) shouldz be ashamed in their position overall.

I'm now hearing some predict the RIAA will fall this year.. Which is obviously a stretch.

But I believe that 2008 will bring a long host of people either one side or the other. Now that Radio Head, AND Trent Rezner (Nine Inch Nails) have dropped their labels, we're going to see either a lot of bands try this, or the bands who have dropped their lebels pick tghem up again because of little profits. Either way, I do believe that this conflict of copyrights, music rights, and so on will be decided in 2008. But certainly neither will simply just go away. Especially such a huge entity such as the RIAA.

I only buy CD's to transfer over to my MP3, CD never gets used after that. I know I should just download, but I like the old fashion way.

Sorry, I will speak normally from now on. Gives myself a headache at the same time.
Other than that, I just think that the whole world made a whole mess up with making an Ipod which then gives people the option to choose whether they want to go the illegal way or the legal way. They should stop accusing us and start dealing with taking the real criminals to jail! The criminals are the ones who actually made the free downloads possible. We just take advantage of whats infront of us.

In response to what some others are saying, I've given it more thought and yes it sounds like a move that they are going to go after MP3 owners next. Maybe by saying something like you can only have a copy either on your PC or on your MP3 player, but not both unless you buy the song twice.

I have only been buying music from live gigs for years now with a few exceptions. I hate the RIAA for making me not want to have music.

I certainly hope I misread that article... $9,250 for each song the woman distributed. This is ridiculous. I put ALL of the CDs I have on my computer to transfer it over to my MP3. Also, atleast 350 tracks on my MP3 were given to me in files my brother shared with me. (My brother is 25, the CDs are his, not mine.) That means my brother is looking at $3,237,500 worth of fines if this is serious--assuming he gets caught.

Everone has copied music on their computers, so are they going to sue everyone, this is a fight they can't win.

The RIAA's legal crusade against its customers is a classic example of an old media company clinging to a business model that has collapsed. Four years of a failed strategy has only "created a whole market of people who specifically look to buy independent goods so as not to deal with the big record companies," Beckerman says. "Every problem they're trying to solve is worse now than when they started."

If I am not mistaken don't copyright laws allow you to make personal copies of what ever CD's you buy so long as you don't redistribute them?

Also they have been going on about the record industry apocalypse ever since cassette tapes and the tape recorder where introduced. If the morons would embrace technology instead of spending millions fghting it with law suit after law suit they would be better off.
